Discuss creativity and my embodied mock-up resembles random thinkers; those who, when confronted with a problem, make seemingly crazy connections that are nonetheless worth exploring.  And – who is more random than Robin Williams?

Shakespearean Porn, Christian Dior Scientist, or equating success to being ass deep in Sham-Wow, all materialize as a stream of consciousness that can render the listener’s face numb.  Record it, play it back at 16 2/3 – and you can begin to appreciate his brilliance.  Robin Williams is aging well.

Here’s the closest thing you’ll see to a “how to be creative” video.  Watch this guy work.  In this interview – at times – he’s slowed down to a human pace, yet he rides culture into a wall of truth you didn’t yet know was there.  Cultural icons, once opposed, become one in a story that helps us travel from one crazy connection to another as we repeatedly side swipe reality at high speeds.

It struck me that the space in which Robin Williams resides when working is nearly identical to the one artists occupy when successful.  Maybe comedy or perhaps drama, but there it is; a paradox of truth found through observing culture’s repeated lies.

Williams’ stand up leads to a fearless presentation of truth.  We may actually pretend there was no porn under Shakespears’ bed but once he presents it we know it was true.  We are surprised when confronted with new mental images of a Christian Dior Scientist but – there it is – close enough to home that we have to laugh.

On a more serious side, his creative advice:

1.  Say the lines and emotionally commit to them.

2.  Engage in listening and appreciate the power of stillness.

3.  Take advantage of those things that force you to stay in the moment.
