Permission To Suck

“Why” is your deepest inside stuff. If you don’t know why you do what you do, how can you expect others to believe in you; why should they care? Actions without a cause don’t accumulate followers.

Crowdsourcing is tainted so let’s gift it to corporations for their Power Point presentations. It’s Jargon. It’s not evil, but let’s get real, crowdsourcing isn’t innovation as much as novelty. We need to look past crowdsourcing.

The myth I enjoy seeing squashed is one that includes being a professional in your spare time as a pathway to competing successfully in {insert creative profession here}. I’m willing to bet that most highly successful creative professionals are obsessed, or possessed – not sure which. Competition is crazy tough so personal commitment is crucial.

I visited the National Portrait Gallery and rediscovered Keith Carter – a photographer I’ve long admired. I saw his portrait of American Playwright and screenwriter Horton Foote in which the Carter limited focus using forward lens tilts. I had forgotten him. I saw it and mumbled, “there it is”.

I’m screwed. The flight is full. I need to go where I’m going but there are only middle seats. Isle seat gate keepers refuse to look me in the eye. Creativity has a middle seat and as with airlines, you never want to be in it.

You’re freelance, you know about cash flow; some months are easier than others. Your number one job is keeping a strong grip on passion’s handle, however, with passion driven businesses your credit line is self discipline.

This is where it begins; the 1000 words theoretically embedded in every photo. Art and photography depends on language translation. The narration begins in our heads as we create. Just as music rises above its mathematical roots, imagery is descriptive.
